Doda, July 15: The death toll in the tragic tempo traveller accident in Doda’s Ponda area rose to seven after two more injured passengers including five-year-old succumbed to their injuries late Tuesday night.

An official told that the accident took place along the Doda–Barath road near Kela Morh, where a tempo traveller (JK06-4847) skidded off and plunged into a deep gorge while en route from Thathri to Gandoh.

A senior police officer told news agency JKNS that “Two more critically injured passengers including a five-year-old girl succumbed to injuries, bringing the total number of deceased to seven, while 17 others remain injured.”

Rescue teams comprising local police, SDRF personnel, and volunteers swiftly responded to the scene and completed the evacuation and relief operation.

Police have registered a case and started an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the mishap. 

Jammu and Kashmir lieutenant  Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, MoS Dr Jitendra Singh and others have condoled the loss of lives in the tragic accident. (JKNS)
