Srinagar, Feb 23: Most people across Kashmir Valley are without power as “65 percent system is down and load has dropped to 400 megawatts” due to snowfall on Wednesday, officials said.
“65 present system is down and load has dropped around to 400 megawatts,” Chief Engineer, Kashmir Power Development Corporation Limited (KPDCL) distribution, Aijaz Ahmad Dar. “Restoration work is going on and by 2 p.m. we will be up by 800-900 megawatts,” he said.
The snowfall, heavier at places, led to substantial damage to transmission lines across the Valley. Most of the areas in Kashmir Valley are without electricity.
Official sources said that the field staff of the distribution wing of the department was on job and engaged in fault restoration.
A number of feeders are under fault, the majority of them from central and south Kashmir, where the intensity of snowfall was higher than other parts, the officials added. (GNS)
