Says Both Were Staying In Secure Hotel Before Choosing To Stay At Their House
Srinagar, Aug 9: Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar on Monday said BJP Sarpanch and his wife (Panch), killed in a militant attack in Anantnag district earlier in the day, were staying in a secure hotel accommodation until recently and were allowed to stay at their house on their request.
The top police officer who visited the spot said Lashker-e-Toiba was behind the attack, killing Ghulam Rasool Dar (sarpanch) and wife Jawahira, a Panch, from Redwani Kulgam.
“Earlier couple was staying in a secure hotel at Kulgam. They were allowed to stay at their house on their request,” the IGP told.
Pertinently, the militants on Monday afternoon shot dead the BJP leader and his wife at Lal Chowk Anantnag after barging inside their rented accommodation at Lal Chowk Anantnag.
Both Dar and his wife Jawahira received critical injuries and were removed to GMC Anantnag. However, both were declared brought dead on the arrival at the hospital, the officials added.
Meanwhile police reached the spot and along with security forces cordoned off the entire area. GNS)
