New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who is currently walking across Rajasthan as part of his Bharat Jodo Yatra, accused the Centre of “sleeping” as China “prepares for war”.

“From what I can make of, from the current situation, China is not preparing for an incursion but a full-fledged war. The threat is clear but our government is ignoring the threat. The Centre is trying to hide facts from us but it won’t be able to hide such things for long,” said Rahul Gandhi.

“I warned this government to be careful about China. Look at China’s pattern…they have been making preparations on the Ladakh and Arunachal sides but the government of India is sleeping,” said the Congress supremo.

Rahul Gandhi’s statements come in the wake of the clashes between the Indian and Chinese forces in the Yangste area near Tawang sector.

More than 300 Chinese soldiers had attempted to get access to the top of a 17,000-ft peak and uproot an Indian post but their attempts were successfully thwarted by forces on the Indian side, said sources. Both sides immediately disengaged from the area after the clash.

Several ministers also questioned the Centre about the clashes between the Indian and Chinese forces in the Tawang sector during the parliamentary sessions held in the last few days.

Congress marked 100 days of Bharat Jodo Yatra on Friday after covering almost 2,600 km during the yatra that kicked off from Kanyakumari on September 7. After covering Rajasthan, the yatra will enter Haryana on December 21.

Rahul Gandhi and his cohort of Congress leaders and followers will cover about 500km in Rajasthan over 17 days before entering Haryana on December 21.
