Srinagar, Mar 14: In the ongoing holy month of Ramadhan, Kashmir is witnessing a distressing surge in the prices of essential commodities, causing multiple hardships to people.
Many residents spoke to news agency complained about escalating costs of mutton, chicken and vegetables.
They expressed frustration over the absence of market checking squads deployed to regulate prices during Ramadhan.
Gulam Nabi, a local, while complaining about price rise demanded the authorities to take measures to control market inflation.
He said that the lack of oversight has left many vulnerable to exploitation, highlighting exorbitant prices for staple food items. Residents lament the absence of prominently displayed price lists, accusing vendors of profiteering at their expense.
Similar complaints were received from Prang and Kangan, where residents condemn the unjustifiable rates imposed by wholesalers and retailers alike.
They appealed to the Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs department to swiftly intervene and alleviate the financial burden on Kashmiri households during this sacred month.(KNO)
