Srinagar, Aug 28: Security forces on Wednesday late evening said they foiled an infiltration bid by a group of terrorists in the Machil sector of north Kashmir’s frontier Kupwara district. 

Official sources said that based on specific intelligence inputs, troops from the 57 Rashtriya Rifles and 53 Infantry Brigade launched an operation in the Kamkari area of the Machil sector. 

“At approximately 19:40 hours, movement of the infiltrating terrorists was detected which led to the quick establishment of contact, ensuring a firefight,” they said. 

Meanwhile, the operation is going on, the officials said, adding that further details are awaited. 

Pertinently, two operations are ongoing in the district. Earlier, officials said an exchange of firing took place between security forces and terrorists in Tanghdar area of Kupwara.(KNO)
