Srinagar, Jan 22: The Post-Graduate Department of Paediatrics at Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar has raised concerns over the rising cases of Acute Liver Failure (ALF) linked to unproven treatments administered by quacks.

In an official communication to the Principal/Dean of GMC Srinagar, the department has urged for immediate action against the practice of quackery to protect public health.

According to the letter, several patients who were previously discharged from the hospital with ALF sought treatment from unqualified individuals in Dara Harwan, hoping for miracle cures. However, these individuals received unproven medical treatments and complementary therapies, which eventually led them to critical conditions, requiring intensive care unit (ICU) admissions. Tragically, some of them succumbed to their conditions.

The department has strongly recommended stringent measures against such quacks to safeguard public health and prevent further loss of life. The letter emphasizes the importance of ensuring qualified medical care and discouraging reliance on unauthorized practitioners.

Additionally, a copy of the communication has been forwarded to the Medical Superintendent of the Government Paediatric Hospital in Bemina for further action and information dissemination.

The GMC Srinagar authorities have urged the public to be cautious and seek treatment only from certified medical professionals to prevent complications arising from unverified therapies.(KNS)
