Srinagar, Jan 24 (QNS): Kashmir is bracing for a severe cold wave, with night temperatures expected to plunge significantly over the next 48 hours. According to weatherman, the central and north Kashmir plains are likely to record temperatures ranging from -4°C to -6°C, while the south Kashmir plains may endure even harsher conditions, with temperatures forecast to drop between -6°C and -9°C.

The region is also set to remain under the influence of dry weather until the end of the month. A weak Western Disturbance is anticipated to pass through Kashmir around January 31, but its impact is expected to be minimal, offering no substantial relief from the ongoing dry spell.

The prolonged dryness is already causing water levels in rivers and reservoirs to decline further, raising concerns about water availability in the weeks ahead.

Residents are urged to prepare for the biting cold and ensure adequate measures to stay warm and safe. Officials have also advised caution to prevent health issues associated with extreme weather conditions, including frostbite and hypothermia.

Kashmir has been in the grip of a particularly harsh winter this season, and the upcoming cold wave is expected to test the resilience of its people further.(QNS)
