Srinagar, Jan 26 (QNS): Severe cold conditions gripped the Kashmir Valley as sub-zero temperatures persisted overnight. Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of -5.6°C, while Qazigund registered -5.0°C. Pahalgam remained one of the coldest places in the valley at -7.0°C, followed by Gulmarg at -5.8°C. Kupwara recorded -5.2°C, and Kokernag saw a comparatively milder -2.5°C. In the higher reaches, Zojila shivered at a bone-chilling -25.0°C.

In Jammu, the winter chill was less intense as the city recorded a minimum temperature of 5.4°C. Banihal and Katra experienced slightly warmer conditions with temperatures of 7.8°C and 7.5°C, respectively. Batote stood at 6.0°C, while Bhaderwah saw a colder 1.4°C.

The cold desert of Ladakh experienced freezing temperatures, with Leh recording -12.5°C and Kargil plunging further to -14.0°C.

The biting cold across the region continues to disrupt daily life, with weather agencies predicting the persistence of these conditions in the coming days.(QNS)
