Pulwama, Jan 25: Forest fire broke out in Bathen wildlife area of Khrew Pampore in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Saturday.

The incident occurred at around 6.30 OM amidst a long-drawn-out dry spell.

A forest official said that a massive firefighting operation was launched as soon as the information about the fire was received.

“The officials from Forest Territorial, Forest Protection and Wildlife Department immediately initiated a joint operation to extinguish the flames,” said the official.

He said that the fire was successfully brought under control.The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) had already issued a warning of a very high risk of forest fires in Jammu and Kashmir over the next seven days due to an extended dry spell in the region.

The advisory is valid until 11 am on January 30. The Forest Survey of India also issued a similar advisory.
