Srinagar, Jan 28 (QNS): The Kashmir Valley continues to reel under severe winter conditions as temperatures plunged below freezing across the region. Pahalgam emerged as the coldest place in the valley, recording a bone-chilling -6.6°C, followed closely by Khudwani at -6.4°C and Sonamarg at -6.1°C. Tourist hotspot Gulmarg registered a freezing -5.0°C, while Pulwama and Larnoo recorded -5.6°C and -5.9°C, respectively. The summer capital, Srinagar, recorded a low of -4.3°C, while Kokernag remained relatively warmer at -1.6°C. Temperatures in Anantnag remained unavailable.

In the Jammu region, temperatures were considerably warmer compared to Kashmir. The city of Jammu recorded a low of 7.0°C, while Banihal was the warmest spot at 8.0°C. Batote and Katra followed closely at 7.5°C. The hill town of Bhaderwah experienced a cooler 1.7°C, while Padder dipped below freezing, recording -2.7°C. Other notable temperatures included Samba at 1.6°C and Udhampur at 2.6°C.

In Ladakh, the extreme cold intensified, with Drass, often referred to as the “Coldest Place in India,” plummeting to -22.2°C, the lowest temperature recorded in the region. Kargil followed at -13.3°C, while Leh registered -11.0°C.(QNS)
