Lt Gen Sharma along with his wife, Neeru Sharma honoured martyr’s wife, Mahabjeen with ‘Tricolour Sash’ of India and ‘JAKLI Badge of Honour’. With tears in her eyes, Mahabjeen kissed the ‘Tricolour Sash’ and thanked the Government and the Nation for recognizing the sacrifice of a Kashmiri soldier.
The wife of Lance Naik Nazir Ahmed Wani, the First Ashok Chakra winner from Kashmir Valley, JAKLI (162 Bn TA), was honoured by Lt Gen Rakesh Kumar Sharma, son of the soil and senior most JAKLI veteran on her return from Delhi.
“It is a great honour for J&K light Infantry (JAKLI) and the state of J&K that Lance Naik Nazir Wani is the first person and soldier from Kashmir Valley to be awarded with Ashok Chakra,” said Lt Gen Sharma said while honouring the martyr’s wife.
He added that with his supreme sacrifice, Lance Naik Nazir Wani has become an inspiration and motivation for the misguided youth who unfortunately became militants, to shun violence, surrender and join security forces.
Interacting with Lt Gen Sharma and his wife, Mahabjeen with teary eyes said, “Most of the youth in Kashmir are patriotic, which is evident from the supreme sacrifice of my husband’. She further said that most of the youth want to join Army/other security forces and serve for the integrity of their state and country.
Pertinent to mention here that Lance Naik Nazir Wani attained martyrdom while fighting with terrorists in Kashmir on November 25, 2018 but before that he eliminated two Militants including one District Commander of Lashkar-E-Toiba.
