Mirwaiz placed under house arrest, Internet speed reduced amid ban on JeI, cabinet order clearing amendment of Art 370 clause
Authorities on Friday imposed restrictions in Old City of summer capital Srinagar and other parts of south Kashmir including Anantnag town even as the internet speed has been reduced across Kashmir Valley.
Reports reaching GNS said that the authorities imposed restrictions in Downtown Srinagar and increased number of police and CRPF men have been deployed there.
Reports said that Hurriyat (M) Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has been placed under house arrest.
Eyewitness said that restrictions have also been imposed in Anantnag town, Bijbehara and other parts of South Kashmir.
Eyewitness told GNS that barricades of barbed wires have been installed in Anantnag town.
An official confirming it said that the step has been taken as a precautionary measure to maintain “law and order”.
The restrictions follow government of India’s decesion banning the Kashmir’s socio-religious organisation Jamaat-e-Islami, days after arresting scores of its members in a massive crackdown.
The imposition of curbs also follow clearence of ammendment of Article 370 clause for SC and ST quota by Union Cabinet without prior consent of the state assembly that stands dissolved.
