The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday issued a statement regarding the encounter in Gadapore Shopian.
The spokesman said that based on credible inputs about the presence of militants in Gadapora area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district, a cordon and search operation was launched by Police and security forces in the area.
As the searches were going on, the hiding militants fired on the search party. The fire was retaliated leading to an encounter. In the ensuing encounter, two militants were killed and the bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter.
Their identities and affiliations are being ascertained. Prima facie this group was believed to be responsible for the killing of lady police official Khushboo Jan earlier this week in Shopian.
In the nearby area, one police official identified as Tariq Ahmad was injured in stone pelting and is undergoing treatment at hospital. Besides, 03 individuals also sustained injuries. They have been hospitalized for the treatment of their injuries and are stated to be stable.
Police has registered a case and initiated investigation in the matter. Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter.
Citizens are requested not to venture inside the encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials.
People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosives materials if any, the police statement said.
