Authorities said a teenage boy was killed after falling into a power canal in Kangan area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Monday afternoon.
A senior police officer said the deceased teenager identified as Aqib Rasool Magrey (17) of Khanan, Kangan, slipped and drowned in Wangat link power canal of Kangan powerhouse at around 3 PM.
Due to the absence of any rescue teams, it was only with the efforts of locals and the police that his body was recovered one km away from the spot where he had drowned.
The officer said local police has taken cognizance of the case and investigations are underway. Local have accused the authorities of not securing the power canal which has become a deathtrap for the youngsters who want to enjoy a bath.
