Says adulterated material will not damage trees, crops but pose a great threat to environment, ecology; urges Govt to unearth the module involved in sale of sub-standard material, book culprits
Srinagar, June 07: Expressing shock and a serious concern over the growing use of substandard and adulterated pesticides, fungicides across Southern districts of Kashmir especially Pulwama, Kulgam and Shopian, BJP JK spokesman Altaf Thakur today said that adulterated material used by innocent farmers is a major threat to environment as well as the orchards and that government must unearth the mafia bhind selling substandard pesticides to gullible farmers.
In a statement issued here, Thakur said that he got scores of calls.from farmers and orchardists from southern districts of Kashmir who complained of substandard pesticides, fungicides and even fertilizers being sold in open markets of south kashmir districts especially Pulwama, Kulgam and Shopian.
Thakur said that use of adulterated pestticides wont only affect the crops and trees but cause a huge impact on the environment and ecology. He said sub standard material being sold to the farmers will damage the trees in the long run and cause huge dent to Kashmir economy.
Thakur said as per famers, there is a deep rooted mafia active behind sale and diatribution of sub standard pesticides, fungicides and fertilizers to innocent farmera in south Kashmir.
The BJP leader urged the divisional administration to form a committee to trace the mafia behind the sale and distribution of adulterated pesticides to farmers. He said use of sub standard fertilizers on fruit crop will endanger the lives of people who consume the crop or fruit.
Thakur advocated unearthing of the module behind sale of sub standard fertilizers, pesticides and fungicidea in Kashmir and urged police to book the culprits involved in the act.
