3 Jaish militants killed, 12 security personnel injured in 6-hour long Katra encounter

Three Jaish-e-Muhammad militants were killed and twelve cops and troopers, including a senior police officer, were injured in six-hour long gun battle in Kakriyal area of Reasi district in the Jammu region.

Early morning, the government forces tracked down a group of three militants in Kakriyal village, who were on run after a brief exchange of gunfire with CRPF troopers at a checkpoint in Jhajjar Kotli on Wednesday, a senior police official told Kashmir Reader.

When the search team started advances, the militants hiding in a residential house opened random fire to break the cordon. The government forces returned the fire setting off a fierce gun-battle.

“In the initial exchange of fire, one militant was killed. A senior police officer and few CRPF troopers were injured,” the official said.

He said in the encounter that continued thereafter, two more militants were killed by the government forces.

“The encounter lasted for nearly six hours. Four cops including an officer and four CRPF personnel were injured in the gunfight,” the official said.

IGP Jammu range SD Singh Jamwal confirmed killing of three militants. He said two AK-47 rifles and a pistol have been recovered from the spot.

The injured police men have been identified as Mohammad Iqbal and Bhanu Partap Singh while injured CRPF personnel were identified as Haresh Pal Singh , Pancham Singh, Abhav Singh, Manoj Kumar and Zakir Hussain.
