Militant outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) has claimed to have killed and injured several government forces in a gunfight at Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district that took place early Thursday.

A JeM spokesman in a statement to GNS said the militant outfit’s commander, Qari Saad alias Ali Bhai, was killed along with one of his associates in the gunfight on Thursday.

“Several Indian troopers were also killed and many injured in the gunfight,” the spokesman claimed.

Paying tributes to Qari for his “contribution to the freedom movement,” the spokesman said the militant commander was “leading Jaish in Kashmir for past six years.”

The spokesman also paid tributes to “our brothers martyred on the Jammu highway today”, referring to the three militants gunned down by forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district.

The militants had escaped after firing on a police party in Jammu on the national highway on Wednesday.

The spokesman said the JeM would avenge the killings of the militants and continue “its struggle for the freedom of Kashmir.”
