Vehicle with fake number plate, press logo seized by Kishtwar police, NC, Congress demanded probe after BJYM leader’s name surfaced as owner

Kishtwar: In a significant development ahead of upcoming Urban Local Bodies (ULB) and Panchayat elections in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, Kishtwar police on the bases of the tip off given by the whistleblower over the use of fake number plate and press logo on a vehicle parked outside Dak Banglow Kishtwar on Sunday, the alert was sounded to various law enforcing agencies after the matter was brought into the notice of transport officials to find the whereabouts of the vehicle in question.

As per the details available, the Alto K 10 vehicle with “JMUUBU 9644” number plate was found parked by some people outside ever busy Dak Banglow chowk Kishtwar and after seeing the number plate got suspicious of the vehicle and accordingly raised the alarm beside also brought the matter into the notice of the various media person to ascertain the facts as the vehicle was also carrying the Press Logo written over it along with a logo of a lesser known Urdu newspaper that mostly remains off the public stall in Kishtwar District.

As soon as the issue comes to fore, the matter was taken up with Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Kishtwar who confirmed that the number plate was fake and on further investigation, it comes to for that the number was issued to an Enfield Motorcycle registered on the name of Jai Krishan son of Krishan Lal resident of near Shiv Temple Jammu.

Keeping in view of sensitivity and the nature of the case being as militancy infested District that witness massive search and cordon operation few days ago following inputs of presence of militants in Kishtwar, soon the matter was brought into the notice of Kishtwar police, army and other law forcing who started manhunt to nab the vehicle beside to ascertain the facts.

After hectic efforts, the vehicle with the fake number plate was seized by Kishtwar police from outside District Police Office Kishtwar and on inquiry, it was found that BJP Youth leader owns the said vehicle and is yet to be registered with Transport Office after he purchase the vehicle in April 2017.

A senior police officer confirmed the seizure of vehicle by the police added that the vehicle was seized after its owner fails to produce the requisite documents. He said that the vehicle owner use the temporary number on his vehicle which was expired way back and in the meantime the Motor Vehicle Department issued the said number to some other vehicle.

Meanwhile National Conference and Congress party called for probe into the use of fake number plate by the BJP Youth leader from Kishtwar added that sabotage on part of the ruling BJP ahead of upcoming ULB and Panchayat elections could not be ruled out.

They said that it is a matter of concern that vehicle with fake number plate goes unnoticed and action was only initiated after local people noticed it and brought the matter into the notice of concern agencies.

Several media persons associated with various national and state media houses called upon the authorities to check the misuse of press logos on the vehicles in Chenab valley Viz Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban.

While showing his concern, the media persons called upon Director Information and IGP Traffic to draw a strategy with regard to issuance and use of Press Logos.

It is pertinent to mention that in far flung Districts of the state including in Kishtwar District, the growth of self styled journalist has increased many folds and are particularly being used by the political parties to promote their activities.

Some of these journalist is also having the patronage of the local administration who uses them to cover up their failure and use them to promote themselves before the government on social media platform.

Even some people who had bad track record including their involvement in anti national activities are posing themselves as journalist unchecked.
