Srinagar, July 9: Tehreek-e-Hurriyat chairman Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai has expressed serious concern over the worsening health condition of party leader Ayaz Akbar’s wife and has urged government to release him immediately on humanitarian grounds.
Sehrai in a statement issued to GNS said Ayaz Akbar’s his wife is suffering from breast cancer and her condition has rapidly deteriorated since last week and she is admitted at SKIMS, Soura.
“The doctors during a fresh investigation have found involvement of other vital organs and she has been currently diagnosed with metastatic cancer (IV stage of cancer),” Sehrai said, adding, “The doctors have told family members that the extent to which the fatal disease spreads she may not survive for too long. It is unfortunate that the lady is lying on death bed and gazing out to see the glimpse of her husband.”
Sehrai has urged authorities to immediately release Ayaz Akbar, who is in NIA’s custody, on humanitarian grounds, keeping in view the worsening health condition of his wife.
“This is a gross human rights violation that a wife is dying with fatal disease and she has to rely on her young traumatised children at the time when she needed her husband most,” he said.
Sehrai also urged the Amnesty International and other human rights bodies fighting for the prisoners’ justice and rights to intervene and impress upon authorities to facilitate Ayaz Akbar’s release. He appealed people to pray for speedy recovery of the TeH leader’s wife. (GNS)
