Kashmir Region

The Kashmir Valley is experiencing biting cold, with several areas recording sub-zero temperatures.

• Srinagar shivered at -5.1°C, while Qazigund recorded -6.4°C.

• Popular tourist spots, including Pahalgam (-8.4°C) and Gulmarg (-6.5°C), remained in the grip of severe frost.

• Sonamarg emerged as one of the coldest spots at -9.8°C, closely followed by Larnoo at -8.8°C.

• Pulwama (-5.3°C), Anantnag (-6.2°C), and Kulgam (-5.8°C) also reported freezing temperatures.

• Ganderbal’s temperature was not available for this update.

Jammu Region

Contrasting the freezing conditions in Kashmir, parts of Jammu saw relatively milder temperatures, though higher altitudes remained cold.

• Jammu city recorded 7.2°C, with Katra at 6.0°C and Udhampur at 5.8°C.

• Banihal (-0.6°C) and Bhaderwah (-0.4°C) witnessed sub-zero temperatures, while Padder recorded a sharp dip to -8.0°C.

• Rajouri and Poonch remained cold at 1.3°C and 2.5°C, respectively.

Ladakh

The cold wave is most severe in Ladakh, with the region enduring extreme sub-zero temperatures.

• Leh recorded -9.0°C, while Kargil was even colder at -12.7°C.

• Drass, often referred to as the “Cold Desert,” froze at a bone-chilling -22.4°C, making it the coldest location in the region.

The Meteorological Department has advised residents and travelers to take precautions against the extreme cold. Power shortages and frozen water supplies have added to the challenges in many areas.
