Srinagar, Feb 12: Police in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district have arrested eight individuals, including a carpenter, for allegedly instigating and assisting a mentally unsound man in constructing a replica of a holy structure in Waripora Kunzar.

The arrests followed public outrage and demands from locals for action against those responsible for misleading the individual.

Officials said Abdul Razak, a resident of Waripora Kunzar, who is reportedly mentally unstable, was manipulated by the accused into building the structure. The incident triggered strong reactions in the area, prompting immediate intervention by authorities.

A police team from Kunzar Police Station, led by SDPO Tangmarg Faizan Ali and SHO Kunzar Sheikh Aadil, took all eight individuals into custody and registered a case against them.

“The investigation has established their role in misleading and exploiting a mentally unsound person. Legal proceedings have been initiated,” a police official stated.

Local residents have welcomed the police action and called for a thorough probe to prevent such incidents in the future.
