Fresh landslides at 6 places hampered restoration work: IG Traffic

Ramban, Mar 03: Fresh landslides at multiple locations along the Jammu-Srinagar national highway in Ramban district have hampered restoration work on Sunday, which has remained closed for the second consecutive day, officials said.

An official told that the 270-kilometer-long highway, the only road connecting Kashmir with the rest of the country, was blocked by mudslides and shooting stones on Saturday, leading to its closure for traffic movement.

He said that men and machinery have been deployed at multiple locations along the route to clear the highway, and it will take time to complete the clearance work.

Inspector General of Traffic for J&K, Bhim Sen Tuti, said that fresh landslides at six locations along the Jammu-Srinagar national highway have hampered restoration work today.

“The decision regarding traffic movement on route to be taken tomorrow morning after assessing the situation,” he said.

Meanwhile, the traffic officials have issued an advisory, urging people to refrain from traveling on the highway until it is cleared.(KNO)
