Srinagar, Jan 03: Srinagar and several parts of the Kashmir Valley woke up to dense fog on Wednesday morning, disrupting visibility and affecting normal life. The heavy fog led to delays in transportation, including air travel and road movement, as commuters navigated through poor visibility conditions.

The Meteorological Department has issued an advisory, predicting heavy snowfall across the valley from January 4 to 6. The impending weather system is expected to intensify, bringing widespread snow and plummeting temperatures.

Kashmir Region:

The Kashmir Valley continues to experience intense cold conditions, with Shopian recording the lowest temperature at -8.5°C. Other notable lows include Larnoo (-8.2°C), Anantnag (-7.7°C), and Khudwani (-7.1°C). Qazigund reported -7.3°C, while Srinagar, the summer capital, recorded -2.2°C. Pahalgam and Gulmarg reported -4.5°C each, and Baramulla saw a dip to -4.8°C.

Jammu Region:

In Jammu, temperatures were relatively moderate, with the winter capital Jammu recording 7.3°C. Katra, a popular pilgrimage site, saw the highest temperature at 11.0°C. Banihal recorded 2.0°C, while Padder dipped below freezing at -1.2°C. Other regions such as Poonch (8.1°C), Kathua (9.1°C), and Rajouri (6.4°C) remained above freezing.

Ladakh:

The cold desert of Ladakh faced frigid conditions, with Drass, the second-coldest inhabited place in the world, registering a bone-chilling -8.6°C. Kargil followed closely at -6.9°C, while Leh recorded -4.4°C.
