Srinagar, 03 March: Deputy Mayor Srinagar, Shiekh Mohammad Imran on Saturday said that Government of India should have their stand on ban of Jamaat-e-Islami J&K but they should have conveyed people properly.
He said religious sentiments of people are associated with the organization and it has a long history in serving the people.
Imran said in the democracy all ideas and ideologies have to flourish but curbing space will lead nowhere. He said it is one of the oldest organization in J&K and sealing its offices, schools and other assets is not a good step at this crucial step.
“Ban political ideology at this crucial stage will have a negative impact on people as it will further alienate the people of Kashmir,” he said.
He said Kashmiri Muslims are being deliberately targeted by sponsored elements in the country. We have recently seen harassment episodes of Kashmiri students, then war-like situation between India and Pakistan, Imran said urging Government of India to relook in the decision.
