Srinagar, Aug 28: The District Magistrate Baramulla on Wednesday issued a public advisory in view of forecasted inclement weather conditions for next couple of days.
“In view of prediction of rainfall over the next couple of days and pursuant to a press statement issued by the Ministry of Earth Sciences, India Meteorological Department, GoI, dated 27.08.2024, general public and people living in low-lying areas, foothills of Karevas and near the rivers/ Nallahs, are hereby advised to refrain from venturing into flood prone areas/ flooded areas; keep emergency supplies handy and stay tuned to local weather updates and also remain vigilant and prioritize safety above all else,” reads an advisory.
The District Magistrate, has also asked the locals to avoid unnecessary travel, especially in areas prone to flooding and if the travel is must, ensure that appropriate rain gear is taken along and drive carefully.
“If you are residing in flood-prone areas, known for water logging, look for a safe location, in consultation with local authorities; follow any evacuation orders, if issued by local authorities. If instructed to evacuate, do so promptly and follow designated evacuation routes; ensure pets and livestock are moved to higher ground and are safe. If evacuating, take pets with you and ensure they have identification and necessary supplies; pay attention to flood alerts and updates via emergency services and local media.”
