Doctors of a private hospital in Puducherry have removed 26 sharp metallic objects, including 13 hairpins, 5 safety pins, and 8 razor blades from a 20-year-old man’s stomach through an endoscopic procedure.
According to the hospital authorities, the patient has been suffering from psychiatric issues for a long time and has been on medication.
However, since the last month, he had been complaining of severe stomach pain. Though he went to multiple hospitals, the cause of the pain could not be diagnosed and he was given medication for ulcer.
However, the GEM Hospital doctors decided to perform an endoscopy to diagnose the problem. During the procedure, they were shocked to find foreign metallic items inside his stomach.
Though these were sharp objects, luckily for the patient, it did not cause any internal tear and it did not move further down from the stomach.
The doctors then removed these objects by an endoscopic procedure which lasted for two hours.
Doctors suspect that the patient consumed these sharp objects after mixing them with food.
The condition of the patient is stable and he has been discharged from hospital.
