The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday claimed to have arrested  a drug peddler from south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

In a statement a police spokesperson said that acting on a tip-off, police party led by SHO Pahalgam raided at Laripora Pahalgam and arrested one person for drug supply offences.

He said that officers seized huge quantity of liquor bottles which had been hidden by accused at the back side of a shop.

“The individual has been identified as Nazir Ahmad Bhat son of Abdul Gani Bhat Resident of Laripora Pahalgam. He has been taken in custody and a case under relevant sections of law stands registered.” He said.

He said that drug dealings in Southern Kashmir has put the community at the risk of harm and eventual criminalization.

“Our consistent actions against drug peddlers are aimed to end this menace of drug addiction. It should reassure the community members and encourage them to come forward with any information pertaining to drug peddling in their neighborhood.” He said.
