The Enforcement Directorate (ED) imposed a penalty of Rs 14.40 lakh on Hurriyat Conference leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani under the Foreign Exchange Management Act.
They also confiscated around Rs 7 lakh ($10,000) that were seized from his premises during an Income Tax raid at his residence in Srinagar’s Hyderpora area in 2002.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday imposed a penalty of Rs 14.40 lakh on Hurriyat Conference leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani under the Foreign Exchange Management Act.
They also confiscated $10,000 (around Rs 7 lakh based on current exchange rates) that were seized from his premises during an Income Tax raid at his residence in Srinagar’s Hyderpora area in 2002.
Last year, the ED summoned Syed Ali Shah Geelani for adjudication proceedings related to the foreign exchange violation case.
The central probe agency had also issued a notice under various sections of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) to the 87-year-old separatist leader based in Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir.
Enforcement Directorate will also impose a penalty and confiscate the illegal acquisition of foreign exchange recovered from Yasin Malik who is the former Chairman of JKLF.
The adjudication proceedings against Yasin Malik are in progress.
