Srinagar, Jan 14: The Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh regions continue to experience biting cold as temperatures plummet across the valleys, plains, and hills.

Larnoo in Anantnag district recorded the lowest temperature at -8.2°C, followed by Sonamarg and Pahalgam at -7.8°C. The ski resort of Gulmarg registered -6.2°C, while Srinagar recorded -4.2°C, slightly warmer compared to surrounding districts.

The southern areas, including Shopian (-6.7°C), Khudwani (-5.8°C), and Kulgam (-5.7°C), reported freezing conditions. Other regions, such as Pulwama and Anantnag, also saw temperatures dip below -5°C. Ganderbal’s temperature remains unavailable.

Jammu Region

While warmer than Kashmir, parts of the Jammu region are also feeling the chill. Banihal (2.0°C), Batote (2.5°C), and Rajouri (2.7°C) experienced low temperatures, with Padder in Kishtwar recording a freezing -4.4°C.

Major cities like Jammu (6.4°C), Katra (6.6°C), and Kathua (7.0°C) are witnessing relatively milder conditions. Ramban recorded the highest temperature at 7.7°C.

Ladakh Region

Ladakh continues to battle extreme winter conditions. Drass, known as one of the coldest inhabited places on Earth, plunged to a bone-chilling -21.8°C. Kargil recorded -12.6°C, while Leh registered -11.6°C, making the region one of the coldest in the country.

The freezing temperatures have disrupted normal life in many areas, with water bodies frozen and frost making roads treacherous. Residents have been urged to take precautions to avoid frostbite and hypothermia during this cold spell.
