Srinagar, July 26: The Principal of Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar, Professor Dr. Iffat Hassan Shah, on Saturday met with the President of the Press Club of Kashmir, Mohammad Saleem Pandit, along with several journalists who were allegedly assaulted during a protest by PG doctors at SMHS Hospital earlier this week.
The meeting was convened following an incident on Wednesday in which three media personnel were physically assaulted by protesting junior doctors while covering the ongoing strike. The journalists also reported that a police officer trying to protect them was shoved aside by the agitated doctors.
During the interaction, Mr. Pandit expressed strong resentment over the mistreatment of media professionals on hospital premises, calling it an unacceptable breach of journalistic rights and public trust.
Dr. Iffat Hassan Shah condemned the incident and assured that strict action would be taken against those found guilty, pending the outcome of an inquiry already ordered by the Health and Medical Education Department. She further confirmed that the conduct of junior doctors toward the media would be included in the inquiry’s terms of reference, and steps.
