Demands for Full-fledged Legislation To Rein into Elements Involved in Such Abhorrent Customs
Srinagar, Mar 23: Flagging black-magic as an emerging cause of concern and its widespread ramifications on social life, Grand Mufti Jammu and Kashmir Mufti Nasir ul Islam has demanded from government a full-fledged legislation into the matter, even as seeking from people to banish and socially boycott people practising, or in any way, involved in such abhorrent customs.
Talking to Alfaaz – The Words, Grand Mufti asserted that there off late has been a steep surge in incidents where people, especially women folk, have been caught red-handed with amulets and other paraphernalia aimed at causing distress and damage to other people.
“We have over the time seen people, especially women, getting intercepted with things including amulets and other stuff in the length and breadth of the Valley,” Islam remarked. “Apart from some bashing, nothing much is being done.”
Islam said even his office has every now and then received people who have fallen victims to such things. “We are being frequented by people over the period, where aggrieved families have brought to us things often of very intricate nature, by other people to cause them harm in unimaginable ways,” the Grand Mufti said.
“There have been people who have been actively involved in such religiously, morally and socially prohibited and abhorrent acts, spread across the Valley but not for once has any government shown seriousness to do anything significant to bring such people to justice,” he lamented.
Narrating a personal experience, the Grand Mufti said that he was recently approached by a highly-educated lady who informed him that she was divorced out of animosity after her in-laws connived with some occultist to make her husband doubt her overall personality.
“There are many other such incidents where people have either taken help or are still taking help of such occultists to harm people in ways beyond one’s comprehension,” Islam underscored.
Urging the government for framing a full-fledged legislation into the matter, Islam said, “When we are expressing concerns over other crimes and concerns including drug addiction, online betting, this should also be a matter to discuss to talk about.”
“The government needs to step up to the occasion and rein into elements involved in such customs by enacting a full-fledged legislation into the matter.”
Islam in the meantime also urged people to wield their influence and encourage others to banish and socially boycott people who either practice or in any way involved in any such religiously, morally and socially prohibited and abhorrent acts.
“Let us all take a stand to put up a collective fight and expose those people who are in any way bringing harm to the society in general and to one another in particular with such acts,” appeals Islam.
