Gondola Gulmarg

Srinagar, Mar 15: World’s second-longest and second highest cable car project Gulmarg Gondola in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district has earned a record ₹ 100 Crore during the period April 2022 to ending March 2023, officials said.

Gulmarg’s famed cable car, Gondola, which covers an aerial distance of five kms is a major tourist attraction in the resort and every day hundreds of visitors ride the lift which travels up above the conifers trees dotting its way upto the Affarwat height, at an altitude of 13,400 ft.

The Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced in the Parliament on Monday that Gulmarg Gondola Cable Car project in Kashmir valley has earned ₹ 100 Crore during the fiscal year. This she revealed during the presentation of Jammu and Kashmir fiscal budget in the Parliament.

Feeling elated for getting recognition at highest national level,” Managing Director JK Cable Car Corporation Jeelani Zargar said.

A senior officer at Gulmarg said they have earned ₹ 100 crore revenue during one season from the Gondola cable car and the collections have surpassed all the previous records which is a great achievement.

“The sales have surpassed all previous records,” he said.

The officer said an average 4000 people use this cable car every day. The officer said a lot of effort has been made to achieve the milestone.

“It was a big challenge to achieve this sales target as the tourists who visit Gulmarg need good accommodation, hospitality and a good infrastructure,” the officer added.

The government has also made an on-line ticketing process that has helped to increase the revenue and has also reduced the hassles of tourists acquiring the ticket for taking a ride.
