Srinagar, Jan 02: The higher reaches of Kashmir and plains received fresh Light snowfall on Thursday (January 02, 2025) as the cold wave conditions persisted across the valley and the minimum temperature plummeted several degrees below the freezing point
Kashmir Region:
The cold wave persists in the Kashmir Valley, with Gulmarg and Larnoo among the coldest spots at -8.6°C. Zojila Pass recorded a bone-chilling low of -22.0°C, making it the coldest location. Kulgam and Anantnag shivered at -6.2°C, while Srinagar, the summer capital, recorded -2.6°C.
Jammu Region:
The Jammu region experienced a mix of cold and moderate temperatures. Jammu city recorded 7.4°C, while Katra was relatively warmer at 9.0°C. Higher altitudes like Banihal and Bhaderwah saw temperatures of 2.9°C and 1.6°C, respectively. Sub-zero temperatures were noted in Padder at -1.3°C.
Ladakh:
Ladakh remains in deep freeze, with Kargil recording the lowest at -8.2°C, while Leh and Drass both reported -7.8°C.
The sharp dip in temperatures highlights the harsh winter conditions in the region. Residents are urged to take precautions against the biting cold.(QNS)
