Srinagar, Feb 25: JKLF while condemning the ongoing crackdown against political and religious organizations and leaders, said suppression of peaceful political dissent by police and army equivalent to imposition of martial law.
JKLF spokesman in a statement issued to KNS said that not only are being peaceful political leaders and activists being jailed, raided and harassed but religious figures and social leaders including whole leadership of Jamat-i-Islami including its Ameer Dr. Hameed Fayaz, vice president of Jamiat Ahlihadees Moulana Mushtaq Ahmad Veeri and others, activists and preachers from Ahli-Sunnat-wal-Jamat and hundreds of young boys and elders have been arrested from last four days from nooks and corners and have been put behind bars on fictitious or in many cases on no charges at all.
He said that “this spree of arrests and raids and other oppressive measures have turned whole valley into a battle field where chaos has taken over the hearts and minds of populace.”
“Suppression of peaceful political dissent by police and army is equal to imposition of martial law. Putting peaceful political activists, religious, social leaders behind bars is undemocratic and also choking space on peaceful political activities can only heighten anarchy and worsen the already fragile situation in Kashmir. This oppression cannot put nation of Kashmir into submission,” added JKLF.
Meanwhile, JKLF expressed grief over the demise of Qazi Ahmadullah of Khanyar who was father of veteran photojournalist Qazi Irshad, Ghulam Hassan Dhobi of Naid-Kadal who was brother of veteran resistance activist Muhammad Saied Dhobi and Ghulam Hassan Mir of Qadipora Budgam who was father of JKLF activists Ali Muhammad Mir.
JKLF leaders Sheikh Abdul Rashid, Ashraf Bin Salam, Professor Javed and others visited the bereaved families and expressed solidarity with them. While praying for the heavenly abode of all the deceased, JKLF leaders also prayed for the Sabr-i-Jamil of their bereaved families.
