Srinagar, May 17: The Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Department (JKPDD) is set to implement a new online payment system for consumers in Smart Metered areas of J&K, aimed at enhancing convenience and efficiency in bill payments.
Raman Rathore, a senior IT expert at JKPDD, revealed to RK that a proposal for the introduction of this upgraded system has been forwarded to the government for approval. Collaborative efforts with banks are also underway to facilitate seamless online transactions for power dues.
Sources familiar with the matter emphasized the necessity of transitioning from the outdated online payment system to a more advanced one, citing the need for improved software and functionality. This shift is expected to take approximately a month to complete, ensuring a smooth transition to the new system.
Recent technical issues with the existing online payment mode prompted JKPDD to revert to issuing hard copies of power bills to Smart Metered area consumers after a year-long hiatus from this practice.
The discrepancies between these hard copy bills and online payment records have caused confusion among consumers.
Acknowledging the obsolescence of the old system, JKPDD officials affirmed the department’s commitment to progress, emphasizing the importance of adopting an advanced and upgraded online payment mechanism.
