Srinagar, Jan 27 (QNS): The Kashmir region continues to endure biting cold as temperatures plummet across the valley. Zojila recorded the lowest temperature at an extreme -24.0°C, followed by Sonamarg at -6.6°C and Khudwani at -6.5°C. Other popular destinations such as Gulmarg and Pahalgam also faced sub-zero chills, with temperatures of -5.2°C and -6.4°C, respectively. Srinagar, the summer capital, registered a freezing -5.5°C, while Kupwara reported -4.3°C.

Anantnag’s temperature data was unavailable, but nearby Shopian and Pulwama both recorded a bone-chilling -6.1°C, with Larnoo at -6.3°C. Other districts such as Bandipora (-4.7°C) and Budgam (-5.4°C) were also gripped by cold waves.

Jammu Region: Sub-zero Temperatures in Parts, Katra Warmest at 8.2°C

In the Jammu region, Jammu city remained relatively warmer at 5.8°C, while Katra recorded the highest temperature in the region at 8.2°C. However, some areas experienced much colder nights, with Padder plunging to -2.9°C and Samba recording 1.0°C. Banihal and Bhaderwah stayed above freezing with 1.5°C and 1.4°C, respectively, while Ramban’s data remained unavailable.

Other prominent areas such as Rajouri (4.4°C), Poonch (4.1°C), and Kathua (5.7°C) recorded moderate temperatures, though cold winds continued to affect normal life.

Ladakh: Extreme Cold Grips Leh, Kargil, and Drass

The Ladakh region is facing a brutal winter, with Drass emerging as one of the coldest inhabited places, reporting a staggering -22.5°C. Kargil and Leh also remained in the icy grip of winter, with temperatures dropping to -14.3°C and -11.7°C, respectively.

The region is expected to remain under the influence of severe cold conditions over the next 2 Days. Authorities have advised residents to take precautions and ensure proper heating arrangements to combat the freezing temperatures.(QNS)
