Srinagar, Jan 25 (QNS): A biting cold wave continues to grip the Kashmir Valley, with temperatures plummeting across the region. Zojila Pass recorded the coldest temperature of -26°C, while Gulmarg, a popular winter destination, froze at -9.0°C. Pahalgam and Sonamarg followed with -8.2°C and -6.0°C, respectively. 

Srinagar, the summer capital, recorded -4.1°C, while Bandipora and Baramulla saw temperatures dip to -4.9°C and -4.1°C. Shopian (-6.3°C) and Khudwani (-6.5°C) also bore the brunt of the icy chill.

The Jammu region, though relatively warmer, also experienced the chill, with Padder in Kishtwar plunging to -4.8°C. Jammu city recorded 5.3°C, while Banihal was slightly warmer at 5.5°C. Udhampur and Rajouri registered minimums of 3.5°C and 2.9°C, respectively. Samba recorded a nippy 1.9°C, while Kathua saw 6.1°C.

The cold desert region of Ladakh remains frozen, with Kargil at -14.3°C and Leh at -13.0°C. Drass, known as the second-coldest inhabited place in the world, recorded an icy -23.9°C.

As temperatures plunge further, authorities have urged residents to stay cautious.(QNS)
