Says Rs 42,000 crore worth road connectivity projects, 14 tunnels under construction in J&K

Sonamarg, Jan 13: Stating that Kashmir is the crown of India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday reaffirmed his commitment to make it even more beautiful.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the Z-Morh Tunnel here in Central Kashmir PM Modi, said Kashmir is the crown of India, and I want this crown to become even more beautiful,PM Modi said.

He said that the Z-Morh Tunnel, constructed at a cost of Rs 2,700 crore, will prove to be a game changer. “This tunnel is not just a piece of infrastructure; it is a game changer that will boost tourism and provide new opportunities for the people,” said PM Modi.

He noted that his government began the construction of the tunnel in 2015 and completed it within its tenure, staying true to its policy of inaugurating what it starts.

He paid rich tributes to the seven individuals of the Z-Morh Tunnel project who lost their lives in a terror attack in Gagangeer in October last year. “Despite being targeted workers remained steadfast on their resolve to complete this all important project.”    

He praised the construction workers for their commitment and sincerity.  

The Prime Minister also highlighted the progress on the Zojila Tunnel, which will further enhance connectivity between Kashmir and Ladakh.

PM Modi detailed the transformative projects undertaken in J&K, including Rs 42,000 crore worth of road connectivity projects, 14 tunnels under construction, and the world’s highest railway bridge over the Chenab River.

He said these efforts are turning J&K into the most connected region in the country.

PM Modi emphasized the region’s thriving tourism sector, citing a tenfold increase in tourist arrivals over the past decade. “Kashmir has regained its identity as the paradise on earth. Lal Chowk remains vibrant even during the night, and Gulmarg has become the capital of winter games,” PM Modi said.

The Prime Minister highlighted the role of J&K’s youth in shaping its future. “More than 90 Khelo India centers are training 4,500 young people, and we are working to attract new industries with an investment of Rs 1,300 crore in the pipeline,” he stated. He also praised the people of J&K for strengthening democracy and credited them for the positive changes in the region.

PM Modi announced that J&K Bank’s business had reached Rs 2.3 lakh crore, and the region is becoming a hub of new opportunities in education, industry, and sports. “The youth of J&K are providing me with full support, and together, we will overcome all obstacles,” he said.

PM Modi said the past decade has brought unprecedented progress to J&K, including the establishment of new IITs, AIIMS, colleges, and polytechnics.

He also emphasized the importance of initiatives like international cricket and marathons held in Srinagar, showcasing J&K’s return to normalcy and global recognition.(KNO)
