Credits PM Modi’s sustained efforts for bringing peace in J&K; Marathon unites people, promotes brotherhood, Urges Foreign, domestic Athletes to go for sightseeing, visit tourist destinations of Valley; Hails Tourism Dept for up to mark arrangements
Srinagar, Oct 20: Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Sunday said Kashmir Marathon was not possible in Srinagar without the peaceful atmosphere for which Prime Minister Narendera Modi deserves all credit.
Addressing the culmination event of Kashmir Marathon here, LG Sinha, said that the event wasn’t possible without the peaceful atmosphere in the Valley. “The credit for the successful grand event goes to none other than PM Modi. It was PM Modi’s efforts to build quality infrastructure and ensure peace in the region that saw Srinagar streets abuzz with the Marathon with international and national level Athletes running,” he said.
The LG said that the Kashmir Marathon is not just about running, winning or losing the race. “The event unites people and promotes brotherhood and harmony,” he said.
He said the spirit shown by the people of Srinagar towards the event deserves all praise. “Over 1700 Athletes including those from international countries were seen running for full marathon of 42 Kms and a half marathon of 21 kms. With this event, Kashmir has entered into the global marathon market as a signature event,” he said.
The LG announced that Jammu will also host a similar Marathon soon. “I repeat, this event will also be held in Jammu as well,” he said.
The LG said that with the successful culmination of the Kashmir Marathon, PM’s commitment of making J&K as a “global destination.” He urged the international and domestic Athletes to go for sightseeing, explore the iconic spots and also visit tourist destinations.
He said that Srinagar has hosted grand events in the past few years that include Football Championship, winter sports, G-20, recently concluded international event of Legends League and now Kashmir Marathon. The LG said hailed Tourism department for quality arrangements for Kashmir Marathon.(KNO)
