Srinagar: The renowned Socio-Political activist Syed Karar Hashmi has strongly condemned acid attack on a teenage girl in Usmani Colony area of Sher-e-Khass Srinagar and described unspeakable, shocking and outrageous act against humanity.
In a message Agha Karar Hashmi expressed Concern over the rising graph of social evils and moral degradation in the society and today’s incident is “wake up call for Kashmir” to kick start an umbrella campaign against all forms of violence and moral degradation prevalent in Kashmir.
As per the honorable Supreme Court of India passed a ruling in July 2013, which regulates the sale of concentrated acid in shops, mandates the maintenance of a register recording details of purchasers, and prohibits the sale of acid to minors. But implementation remains a distant reality and need is to have a monitoring on every loophole unplugged. Karar Hashmi added
Syed Karar a Seminarian at Hauza Ilmia Qom said that It is more shocking that acid attack remains a highly gendered form of violence, however, with perpetrators almost always male, and victims primarily female. The Islam proposes and decrees a harsh punishment for such crimes. Outraging the modesty of womenfolk is more heinous crime than even killing a person. Hashmi requested Lt-Governor for speedy justice in the case and prayed speedy recovery for the acid victim.
