Srinagar, Feb 1: Kashmir Traders & Manufacturers Federation (KTMF) has welcomed the recent announcement by the NC-led government to not install water meters, a much-needed relief for the business community and the general public.
This decision has come after KTMF’s recent appeal to the government and to the concerns of stakeholders and Govt’s commitment to easing the financial burden on the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Pertinently few days ago, KTMF President Mohammad Yaseen Khan had urged the government not to impose any water meters and to ensure that all stakeholders, including the business community were taken on board before making such policy decisions. “We appreciate that our concerns have been acknowledged by the NC led govt and we hope this sets a precedent for future governance where consultation and dialogue remain central to policymaking, Khan stated.
Earlier, National Conference Chief spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq also clarified that there are no plans of installing water meters, further saying no water fee will be charges. Also Chief Engineer Jal Shakti Kashmir, Bharam Jyoti Sharma, told a local news agency, “We have no plans to install smart meters in Kashmir, and no directions have been issued.”
Khan said, “KTMF remains committed to advocating for the rights and interests of traders and business community across the Kashmir. We will continue to engage with the government to ensure policies are business-friendly and promote economic growth”.
