Authorities on Thursday ordered the suspension of class work in educational institutions of various districts of Kashmir valley in wake of reports about a gunfight in north Kashmir Kupwara’s district.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kupwara Khalid Jehangir said the class work in all educational institutions of Kupwara will remain suspended.
An official in the district said the class work was suspended in wake of reports about two local militants being trapped in a gunfight with the government forces.
Meanwhile, the authorities in district Bandipora have also ordered the closure of all educational institutions.
Deputy Commissioner Baramulla also ordered the closure of colleges and higher secondary schools (HSS) in Pattan, Sopore sub division and Baramulla town.
The administration of Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Awantipora has also ordered the closure of the varsity today. “The university will remain closed for today,” said a varsity spokesman.
Sources said the class work will also remain suspended in all degree colleges and some schools of Srinagar district today.
Reports said that three militants, including a top commander, were trapped in a gunfight with the government forces in Shatgund village of Handwara.
Police has denied any militant killings so far.
