A group of persons attacked a fire tender in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district when it was moving to douse a fire that erupted in the area Saturday evening.
Reports said a minor fire erupted at Jamia Qadeem area and local youth swung into action to douse the fire. They also informed the Fire and Emergency Services (FES) Bandipora.
“As soon as the fire tenders reached the spot, few elderly persons of the area attacked the firemen, heckled them and abused them,’ said a local resident adding, “They didn’t allowed them to start their operation to douse the flames despite pleas by majority of the residents of the area.”
Locals said fire tenders took few minutes to reach the spot that enraged few individuals who, attacked the firemen.
The residents regretted the incident and appealed administration to take action against them.
Meanwhile, an official of the FES Bandipora said their control room received a call at 18:20 hours (6:20pm) and after confirmation the firemen marched from the station at 18:25 hours (6:25pm).
“But few anti-social elements stopped firemen from doing their job. We have identified the persons and will approach law enforcing agencies to take action against them,” he said.
