Srinagar, April 29: Amid a complete shutdown in Kulgam district, several persons including a girl were injured in clashes in the south Kashmir’s district where voting under the 2nd leg of the three phased election was held for Anantnag parliamentary seat on Monday.
Officials told GNS some youth pelted stones upon polling station at Watoo Damhal in which a sub-Inspector Suresh Kumar of SSB and suffered minor injury and was hospitalized.
They said there were clashes at Kugger Yaripora and army fired few pellets due to which three persons were injured and were hospitalized. Youth also hurled stones towards polling Booths in village Bugam and Poniwa. Police fired tear smoke shells in Poniwa. However there were no reports about injury to anyone in the incident, they said.
Reports said some persons also pelted stones upon polling booth at Ashmuji Kulgam and government forces deployed there fired few teargas shells due to which one girl Shahida daughter of Mohammad Altaf of Ashmuji suffered a minor injury.
Stone pelting was also reported in Tooli Nowpora and the government forces deployed there fired few pellets due to which two youths, one of them identified as Faisal Ahmad Naik of Tooli Nowpora got pellet injuries.
There was heavy stone pelting at Kelam Kulgam and government forces there fired teargas shells pellets in which one person Khalid Bashir Sheikh of Sanginpora Kulgam was injured
Reports said that he suffered pellet injury in his head and was referred to District hospital Janglatmandi Anantnag where from he was referred to Srinagar for specialized treatment, they said.
Meanwhile, there was a complete shutdown in the Kulgam district and shops and business establishments were closed. Schools and colleges were also closed in the district along with government offices due to holiday announced by the government on polling day.
