Anantnag, Jun 14: A 44-tear-old man drowned in the Jhelum river while performing ablution (Wudu) near Batengoo area of Anantnag on Saturday.
An offical told news agency JKNS that the deceased has been identified as 44-year-old Farooq Ahmad Dar, son of Ghulam Nabi Dar, a resident of Sheoll Batengoo, who worked as a daily wager with the Mechanical Division Awantipora of the Irrigation Department.
The man accidentally slipped and fell into the river. Onlookers immediately retrieved him and rushed him to GMC Anantnag, where doctors declared him brought dead. “He had no vital signs on arrival and could not be revived despite all efforts,” Medical Supritendent in GMC Anantnag told JKNS. The body has been sent for medico-legal formalities.
The deceased is survived by his wife and four minor daughters. His sudden death has shocked the local community, with neighbours recalling him as a hardworking and sincere man. “His dedication to duty, especially along the river, was admirable. His passing is a great loss to us all,” a local resident said.
Cognizance of the incident has been taken and further investigation started.
