Srinagar, May 08: While the light rains lashed multiple areas across Kashmir, the weatherman here has issued a ‘yellow alert’ for May 09 and 10, predicting brief spells of light rain, thundershower and gusty winds at scattered to fairly widespread places across Jammu and Kashmir.
A two-day yellow alert has been issued by the MeT from May 09.
Director Meteorological department (MeT), Dr Mukhtar Ahmad said partly to generally cloudy with a spell of light to moderate rain, thundershower and gusty winds are expected at scattered to fairly widespread places.
The parts of Kashmir, including Srinagar – the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, were lashed by the light rains on Thursday, bringing down the temperature across the valley.
The MeT Director further predicted the possibility of a brief spell of light rain and thundershower at isolated places on May 12, adding that there is a forecast of generally dry weather conditions from May 13 to May 17.
Meanwhile, the MeT has called upon people to follow the administration and traffic advisory.
“Avoid boating, shikara riding in Dal Lake, Wular Lake and other water bodies during inclement weather and gusty winds,” it said in the advisory, adding that intense showers at a few vulnerable places may lead to landslides and mudslides.
The MeT further said there is a forecast of a significant rise in day temperature from May 13 onwards, mainly in the Jammu division.(KNO)
