The Pakistan star is often referred to as ‘king’ by his fans on social media for his remarkable consistency with the bat. However, Babar has been undergoing inconsistent form in recent times as he hasn’t scored an ODI century since August 2023 and a Test century since December 2022.

In the ongoing tri-series against New Zealand and South Africa, Babar once again failed to leave his mark having scored just 33 runs from two innings so far at an average of 16.50. Recently, the batter requested his fans to stop giving him the title of the king as he feels that there’s a lot yet to be achieved in his career.

“Please stop calling me King. I am not King, I am not there yet. There are new roles for me now. Whatever I have done before is in the past. Every match is a fresh challenge, and I must focus on the present and future,” Babar told media.

Furthermore, the former Pakistan captain also praised Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Agha for their marvellous hundreds against South Africa which helped Pakistan qualify for the final of the Champions Trophy.

“The team had a plan, and I stuck to it. Agha and Rizwan played brilliantly today,” he added.

Pakistan to face New Zealand in tri-series final

Pakistan were set a massive target of 353 runs in a must-win encounter to set up a final clash against New Zealand in the ongoing tri-series. The hosts were reduced to 91/3 in 10.4 overs when Salman Agha (134 off 103) joined captain Rizwan (122* off 128) at the crease.

The duo put on a massive stand of 260 runs off 229 balls and helped Pakistan register their highest successful run chase in ODIs. As a result, they won the match by six wickets and qualified for the final where they will take on New Zealand on February 14 at National Stadium, Karachi.
