Revision of rates, renewal of licenses among other issues to come up for discussion
Srinagar, Jan 27: Following sealing of more than 100 mutton shops in the Valley by Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) Kashmir to control pricing, stakeholders associated with the trade said they are scheduled to meet divisional administration authorities on Saturday to discuss the future course on the sale of mutton.
Kashmir witnessed a brief shortage of mutton after the officials from the enforcement team of FCS&CA intensified the drive against the erring mutton shopkeepers violating the government rate on mutton.
General Secretary all Kashmiri Mutton Dealers Association Mehrajudin told that they are scheduled to meet the divisional administrative authorities to discuss the revision of mutton rates and renewal of licenses.
“Last time the rate of mutton was revised in 2021 and the price fixed was Rs 535. Though the order was valid for six months only, it was extended later. Now we have prepared a fresh draft and are meeting divisional administration tomorrow”, he said.
Director Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) Kashmir Abdul Salam Mir confirmed that a meeting with mutton stakeholders is scheduled tomorrow regarding the revision of the rate and that they will share further details about the meeting tomorrow.
Refuting the reports of mutton shortage in the market, Director Kashmir FCS&CA said that there is no mutton shortage in the market, stating that over the past 10 days around 150- 200 trucks of sheep have arrived in the valley.
“Every day on average 10 sheep-laden trucks reach the valley, but due to inclement weather for the last many days there must be a temporary halt in supply. But there is no mutton shortage in the market as the supply is adequate,” he said.(KNO)
