Clashes, spontaneous shutdown in Maisuma, adjoining areas
National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Tuesday carried raids at the residence of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik, chairman Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Shabir Shah, Masarat Alam Bhat, Ashraf Sehrai, Zafar Akbar Bhat and Naseem Geelani
Police sources told GNS that during the raid on Malik’s house, the NIA sleuths seized his personal laptop besides other documents.
Intense clashes between youth and government forces are going on in Maisuma area here after the National Investigation Agency conducted a raid at the residence of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik on Tuesday.
Soon after the NIA raided Malik’s residence, the youth took to streets and pelted stones at government forces which also houses the JKLF’s head office at Maisuma.
According to a GNS correspondent, the police and paramilitary personnel deployed in the area fired tear smoke shells and pellets at the youth, leading to intense clashes.
Shops and business establishments in Maisuma and adjacent areas including Lal Chowk were shut.
The NIA also carried out raids on houses of several pro-freedom leaders including Hurriyat Conference (M) Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq at Nageen, Shabir Shah at Sanat Nagar, Masarat Alam Bhat, Ashraf Sehrai, Zafar Akbar Bhat and Naseem Geelani.
